ABSTRACT
The aim of the present work was to evaluate the antidiabetic activity of ethanol and aqueous extract of leaves of Gardenia latifolia. The samples were studied for their effect on inhibition of alpha amylase, alpha glucosidase and glucose transport across yeast cells. The significant results were observed in the crude extracts. The α-glucosidse & α-amylase inhibition was in a dose dependent manner and glucose transport differs with the sample and glucose concentration. From the results of the study, it is inferred that, Gardenia latifolia leaves possesses antidiabetic activity. However, these effects need to be confirmed using in vivo models and clinical trials for its effective utilization as therapeutic agents.
