ABSTRACT
Aloe vera is a kind of living pharmacy and has an antibacterial power. The antibacterial substances are saponin, tannin and flavonoid. Previous studies indicate that Aloe vera extracts have antibacterial effects against the growth of positive Gram bacteria, either inhibiting harmful Gram bacteria. The experiment was intended to observe the antibacterial effects of Aloe vera against Escherichia coli colonies. The Aloe vera extract can be done through maceration methods in five concentrations (20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%). The experiments were using Escherichia coli which was performed on MH agar by Kirby Bauer disc diffusion. The result showed a clear zone near the discs containing Aloe vera extracts in 100% concentration. So, it can be concluded that Aloe vera has an antibacterial effectivity against the growth of Escherichia coli colonies in vitro.
